Before & After
Your Enhancements
Your Procedure
A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat while repairing stretched and separated abdominal muscles, if necessary. Tummy tucks are usually performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. While most patients go home the day of their surgery, they need to arrange to have someone drive for them.
A full tummy tuck usually requires an incision that spans from hip to hip across the lower abdomen just above the pubic bone, as well as an incision around your belly button. The length of the incision will depend on the amount of loose skin that needs to be removed. Your doctor will take special care to try to place the incision where it can be easily concealed by most underwear and bathing suits. If your abdominal muscles have not separated and you have only minimal sagging and loose skin, a less invasive mini-abdominoplasty might be appropriate. This variation involves a shorter incision and quicker recovery period than the full tummy tuck.
After your tummy tuck, you will go home with 1 or more surgical drains in place to prevent fluid buildup in the treated area. Your doctor will usually remove the drains in 2 to 3 weeks. In addition, you will need to wear a compression garment for the first few weeks to encourage proper healing. Most patients are able to return to light activity within about 7 to 14 days, and can return to work in 3 to 4 weeks. They can usually resume vigorous exercise after about 6 weeks.
Your Enhanced Look
Our tummy tuck patients are usually thrilled to regain a firm, flat abdomen. Many enjoy enhanced self-confidence as well. Imagine being free from the excess, stretched skin and regaining your youthful “teenage” abdomen.
